Maternity Leave Dilemma

Posted on the May 23rd, 2009 under Plans by Sweet Mommy

My without pay leave is going to end in June and I have to join college in July. I am dreading it already. I have searched the internet regarding the maternity leave and found a clause that states that maternity leave can be taken with any other leave. That must mean without pay extra ordinary leave too. This should make me happy, but I am worried about another thing. The maternity benefit act 1961 states that the employee should have worked for at least 160 days in the twelve months preceding the expected delivery date. then only will she get the maternity pay. I am on without pay from December last year, that means that I haven’t worked for 160 days prior to my expected delivery date. So I won’t be getting any pay during the maternity leave. That’s totally fine by me. But will it be okay with my husband? He won’t accept it as it is. He will try to twist the rules and pull strings in order to get the maternity leave sanctioned. But I am not happy. I just want to live in peace and domestic bliss ( which I try to hamper as much as I can through my irritating behavior). then there is another matter of filing tax returns. I am not liable to pay tax as I have been on without pay leave for most part of the year. But I should start looking for some low cost term life insurance, so that I don’t have to search frantically for saving options later.

Time to Buy a Car Stereo

I am looking for a car stereo because the stereo my father-in law had in our car, was stolen some months back. Its better to search for a wholesale electronics shop and look for some bargain, but my husband is holding it for now. He says that he wants a car cd player which also has USB port in it. He is always looking for electronics items with latest technology. Recently he bought a Silvercrest DVD player, which plays DVDs as well as pen drive. He uploads Jahnavi’s cartoons on the pen drive and then we watch them at home. Its a very useful feature in a DVD player.

I am an Adviser Now

Now that I have become pregnant and stopped caring about my increasing weight, I am become a sort of expert on losing weight and getting a slim body. Ironic, isn’t it. I can give a long lecture on which is the best diet pill for whom. In fact one of my friends has asked me to write an article on ways to lose weight, which she is going to publish in her online magazine. See, I have become a sought after celebrity in my own right. Enough of boasting and self praise. Tomorrow we are going to Livingston to get an ultrasound scan. I have a busy week ahead.

My Bit for Charity

Posted on the May 8th, 2009 under Me by Sweet Mommy

Last Saturday I was roaming on Nicholson Street doing rounds of charity shops. I went in Cancer Research Uk’s shop and looked around for something interesting. I found a pile up clock puzzle which I thought would be a nice gift for my younger nephew. I go to a lot of charity shops and find some good bargains there. Cancer Research is one of my favorite charities. They are helping people suffering from varrous types of cancers like Mesothelioma cancer etc. Another favorite is Bethany Shop. They stock good furniture and decorative items as well as crockery. The prices are very reasonable. I especially like their shop on the quite street of Summerhall Place. It is on a secluded area facing the meadow park. The shop has a nice little cafe too.

Good to Plan Ahead

My husband is always very thoughtful when it comes to money. He is very entrepreneurial, always thinking of investing money in useful and profitable ventures. He has invested in a franchisee for kids clothes’ brand. Its in partnership with his childhood friend. We have bought a flat which is nearing completion and hopefully we will be given possession in December this year. Only two months EMI is left to pay for the flat. Then we have my husband’s term life insurances. We do have to pay our friends and family the loan we took from them to buy the flat and the shop franchisee, but at least we don’t have to pay interest on that amount and there is not a deadline to pay it. All in all the financial plan seem smooth enough.
