No Call From In-laws

Hubby dear has gone to India to attend three weddings ( of his three friends). Its been six days since he left. I and Jahnavi are alone here in Edinburgh. I agreed on his trip only because there are two Indian families here in Edinburgh, whom I can rely on if there is any problem. But for them, I wouldn’t have found courage to live for a week in an unknown city. Edinburgh is a nice place, but a lot of untoward things can happen to you and if you don’t know anybody, it poses serious problem for your survival. Anyways, as I was saying, I allowed hubby to make this trip because we have friends here in Edinburgh to look after us in case we need anything.
Now interesting thing is that none of my in-laws have rang us to know how we are doing. No phone call! I am a little upset. My husband expects me to call my in-laws at least once a week and moreover we invariably talk to them every weekend on google talk too. My mother-in law is very particular to point out that I haven’t called them for soooo…..many days,………. have I forgotten them?
And now when its their turn to make a call, there is no sign of them.
I told my husband about my displeasure, and instead of agreeing that his parents are in the wrong, he argued that he is never home, that’s why they haven’t called. What a pathetic excuse. As if the in-laws don’t have cell phones of their own, as if they don’t know my number and as if my husband is out of home 24/7.
I don’t give a shit if my in-laws ring me or not. I am upset because I am supposed to fulfill my duty of being a responsible daughter-in law where as there is not a single effort on my in-laws’ part. They have got their son, now it doesn’t matter to them if their daughter-in law or grand-daughter are well or not.
Why do I expect so much from my in-laws? All in-laws are like that. They are only concerned with their son and that’s all. And then it is expected of the daughter-in law to become a part of the family!

Use this Minute Before It Slips Away!

I read this small poem by Phyllis C. Michael in an old magazine and thought it to share here. The poem goes like this;
It only takes a minute
To say a word of cheer;

It only takes a minute
To dry a falling tear;

It only takes a minute
To lend a helping hand;

It only takes a minute
To try and understand;

It only takes a minute
To make and keep a friend;

It only takes a minute
Some broken heart to mend;

It only takes a minute
To brighten someone’s day;

Then use this very minute
Before it slips away.

Anxiety Thy Other Name is I

Posted on the February 16th, 2009 under Ideas by Sweet Mommy

I have to admit that I suffer from some kind of anxiety disorder. I feel very anxious when I have to meet some one new, or when somebody come over at our house for dinner. I am always anxious whether everything will go alright or what will the other person think about me. I even form a conversation in my mind involving all the bad things the person will say about me and how I will encounter them. Thus I form a very biased image about a person even before meeting them. I am always looking for help to cure this ailment and my search took me to Dr Daniel Amen. I read some of his books and I can say that I am impressed with the way he deals with the topic.

Am I Dyslexic?

Posted on the February 16th, 2009 under Ideas by Sweet Mommy

Most of the time I have to re-read and edit what I have written because I misspell a lot of words while writing. I even read the words differently. May be I am dyslexic. Dyslexic people generally confuse letters and make mirror images. I don’t know whether I am dyslexic or careless. I read wrong spellings and then remember the words with wrong spellings, and the result is that I pronounce the word incorrectly. For example I may read Watergate as Westgate and then throughout the article I will be reading it as Westgate. May be I should pay more attention while I read and the problem will subside.

Not a Great Valentine’s Day for Us

Hubby dear wanted to present me a diamond pendant worth 250 pounds, but didn’t already buy it because he wanted to make sure that I like it first and don’t make him return it back.(I am not very fond of jewelery).
I wanted to give him a jacket or an i-pod ( I have taken his mobile to use as a camera so he can’t listen music en route his office). But he said that ipods are out of fashion now because more and more cell phone companies are introducing new features similar to ipods in their phones.
I liked a jacket at M&S outlet. It was light Grey and multi-pocketed and for just £ 24 ( after discount). Husband again refused, saying he will buy one from carboot sale tomorrow.
So none gifted nothing to each other on VAlentine’s Day.
