A Play School for my Daughter

Posted on the June 30th, 2008 under My daughter by Sweet Mommy

I have to put my daughter in playschool for two reasons. The main reason is that she has become so timid that she is afraid of not only strangers, but even children of her own age. We  are worried what sort of person she will become. I secretly know that my daughter is getting this stranger-phobia from me. I get hyper when ever we have to go to meet some one. I am the one who is showing her the way to reclusive attitude. But I want her to be like her father; outgoing, friendly, at ease in his own skin and never afraid to take the first step and try new vistas.
The playschool may not turn my daughter into an extrovert overnight, but at least she will learn to interact with kids of her own age. That will be an achievement in itself.
Second reason for admitting her into the playschool is the uncertainty over my sister-in law’s return. She stays at home and used to look after my daughter when every body else was at their jobs. Now that she is giving no hints of returning, its better that I think of some alternative before my college starts.

Sister-In law Trouble

Posted on the June 30th, 2008 under In laws by Sweet Mommy

My sister-in law is showing no inclination towards returning home. No..no she hasn’t run away or estranged with her husband. She had gone to her visit her maternal uncles and aunts. She has been raised by them and she lived with them before her marriage. She was to return around 15th. When ever my in laws call her, she says she will be coming in a day or two. Yesterday she called my younger brother-inlaw, but didn’t speak to anybody else ( me, my mother inlaw, father inlaw). That’s a little unusual. In Indian families, it is customary and compulsory for a daughter inlaw to return to her husband’s house whenever summoned. And here she is, defying the orders. She has never done that before. I wonder what is the message behind this behaviour? Or is there any?
My mother inlaw had to go on a visit to her home village, but she couldn’t.

My First Rant

Posted on the June 25th, 2008 under In laws by Sweet Mommy

This is me. A former feminist-turned-cocoon. I will be entertaining you with my daily rants about my life which is too beautiful and perfect for me to live happily. I am going home tomorrow, to my in-laws home to be precise. I live there, you know. Don’t be surprised. I am not living off their money. I don’t need any financial assistance from them, nor do my husband. In fact both of us are the main providers in the family. Its just that in India, its a tradition to live with your in laws when you get married. It can be for life or for a short span; it all depends on who is able to bear whom and for how long. Anyways, I am going back to India after spending a few months (five, to be precise) in Scotland and I am not happy about it. Well, I am never happy, so nothing new.
